PostSubject: Still no compatibility for penguines...   Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:27 pm

I ordered my free copy of Linux hoping to solve the incompatibilities with Linux. Took about a week or two to get here. I installed it and realized I don't know how to do shit with it. So I have not discovered any solutions. Though I have an idea that might work while keeping SMOD closed-source. Using Luac.
What is Luac?
Lua compile - A pre-compiler for Lua source

Like a Star @ heaven Advantages
Should be slightly faster since Lua no longer has to compile the source every time you load SMOD
Should be compatible with Linux
Keep SMOD closed source

Like a Star @ heaven Disadvantages
There will be NO way to "uncompile" it meaning if we (the developers) lose all copies of the source getting it back is impossible

Here are two files created by me that have been pre-compiled with Luac

Well what do you think?

Eh? Yah sure, sure.
Dark Byte, just do your thing. I haven't been able to be very "involved" lately.

It is decided. You keep the data. In the meantime, we should advertise for more members. I need people to help work on maps.

Okay. I think I have fixed it. Gave the possible fix to MostAfa, and he will soon be testing it for us.

I now know the problem with Linux. It is an easy fix.
http://www.lua.org/pil/21.2.2.html

The reason for the link:
(If you read the first few sentences you know this)
Lua opens files as a text (not binary). In Linux text is the same as binary. So this is most likely what caused the error.
