SMOD2D is a
Counter-Strike:2D Modification inspired from
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 And focuses on fast-paced online team gameplay around 3 highly destructible maps.
It is designed to be its own distinct game, so a separate folder has to be made and only SMOD2D users can join SMOD2D Servers. Unlike regular Counter-Strike:2D, SMOD2D has
4 Playable Combat Roles. These combat roles are:
ASSAULT - 1ST CHARACTER
RECON - 2ND CHARACTER
MEDIC - 3RD CHARACTER
SUPPORT - 4TH CHARACTEREach class has its own unique and special ability which makes them depend on each other. Judging from previous in-game experiences, ping's "advantage" has been greatly reduced and instead the real scale tipper depends on your teamwork, strategy and your proper composition. You can't just go out as a one-man army, like in Counter-Strike:2D. You must trust the son of a bitch right next to you to heal you or give you ammo or even provide cover and backup. If you know you can't trust him... then by all means... FIND ANOTHER SQUAD.
The maps are designed to pit opposing forces to fight over important ground which the map designers themselves have planned and calculated the flow of combat. In addition to the maps' greatness, the players themselves can influence the landscape as 95% of the walls are highly destructible and it adds to the great fun of the game. There's douchebag camping inside a building with a shotgun or sniper? No problem, if you're smart enough you'll realize you can just blow his cover away, piece by piece.
Besides, he probably won't last long if he's alone as he needs medical attention and constant ammo resupplying.
Ever downloaded camouflage skins which only you can see and makes it suck for you since others only get to see their own skins or the boring default ones? Well, since only SMOD2D users are able to join SMOD2D servers, worry no more. The players have been designed to blend with the map with the universal colors of brown, black and green.
You a fan of the literary works? Well, if you read the map briefings, you may be surprised how creative and non-cheesy they are when you read them. The briefings are made from a third-party style perspective, taking no sides but only reporting what is supposedly going on. Finally, a game that doesn't involve the story of Special Ops douchebags with sissy heartbeat monitors on their guns! :3
The killstreaks are also quite fun and have barely any balance difference as they all require work(except UAV). The following killstreaks are
UAV RECON - 5 KILL/NO DEATHS
ARTILLERY STRIKE - 8 KILLS/NO DEATHS
AC130 SUPPORT - 13 KILLS/NO DEATHS
NAPALM AERIAL STRIKE - 20 KILLS/NO DEATHSExcept UAV, all killstreaks require work. Artillery strike needs exact pinpoint coordinates or else you might end up raping your own team. The AC130 needs a steady hand to carefully aim its 6 shots. The Napalm strike, once gain needs coordinates... But with the constant intensity of battles involved, you'd have to be a god in multitasking to learn the enemy's coordinates(pressing T) and remembering it exactly or else one slight miscalculation can render your killstreak useless.
The CS2D Engine hasn't been modified in any way, so it's legal. We only "enhanced" it with lua support. I hope this gives you an idea of SMOD2D, because to me, after I played it... This article comes nowhere near close.
Download SMOD2D now and see you on the battlefield, soldier!
DISCLAIMER- Spoiler:
SMOD2D is in no way related to the real Half-Life Chinese Mod of almost the same name; smod.
